happy

I know that she's really not smiling at me, but I can pretend.

this is sad

It's not a face we see often because usually at the first sign of a cry she is scooped up and tended to. I was trying to take a few photos yesterday and had just set everything up when the crying started. So I stopped...after taking a few pictures of my sad baby.

She is currently fast asleep in my arms as I type this post with one hand. I realize I may be putting her on the fast track to being spoiled, but I'm okay with it.

i love my phone

I love my phone because it's almost always by my side, ready to snap a low quality image. I'm totally okay with that since I haven't given the Nikon much love lately.

This girl is so sweet. I can't wait to see who she will become and all that will happen to get her there. Pay no attention to the loads of laundry that need to be folded. My toes still look pretty fab from the deluxe pedicure I enjoyed on my last solo outing before she was born!

Real pictures coming soon...

flexed feet

I have this habit of flexing my feet. Deran is forever telling me to relax my toes, feet, etc. To me, they are relaxed. I could sit for hours with my feet like that and it wouldn't bother me or even draw my attention.

Last night as I was sitting on the couch feeding Avery he told me to relax my foot and how annoying he finds it when my toes are stretched backward. Secretly I know it's one of the things he really loves about me.

Avery is a wiggle worm! When she eats she's only still if she's about to fall asleep, not a problem at 2 weeks but in a couple of months nursing may get a little more interesting. I noticed last night that she was flexing her feet and leaving them that way for a few minutes at a time and it made me smile.

No pictures and I know that's boring, what with a cute new baby and all. I'll be better soon! At least I'm ordering pictures today, so tomorrow could find a few being posted!!

random delivery day facts

1. After a delicious Luby's lunch my mom asked if I was sure I was okay because she thought I was being really quiet.

2. My water broke on the way home with my dad, in his company car.

3. Deran left two uneaten hotdogs on the desk in his office and just left work when I called. Fortunately, he later called his brother to dispose of them.

4. My sister, niece, and Deran met me at the entrance to the office building for my doctor. I had to go up to the 9th floor, all the while looking like I'd wet my pants.

5. I knew the baby hadn't turned because I'd felt her head in my ribs all day, which meant we were on the way for a c-section.

6. A c-section, what a bizarre experience for someone who's never had a major medical procedure.

7. I wonder what exactly they used to test the feeling and effectiveness of the epidural/spinal block combo. They asked if I felt the sharpness, so I assumed it was something sharp and yet I wasn't all cut up.

8. The pressure. Oh my gah, the pressure!

9. Deran got to take pictures of Avery's arrival. It's a very strange thing to see her being pulled from my belly. I jokingly tell Deran that it's the photo I want to use for her announcements.

10. I asked why she wasn't crying and a nurse told me they were about to make her cry, it was one of the sweetest sounds and she didn't stop for a long time.

11. I was given something to help me relax b/c apparently I seemed nervous (who me?!), unfortunately it made me see double. In every picture the nurse took of the three of us I have one squinty eye, trying to focus, as Deran holds Avery up to let me see.

12. I'm so glad I'd taken my camera to visit K earlier that day, we have so many images to document the day.

13. I did not love the shakes in recovery, or not being able to feel my legs.

14. I do love my baby and I'm so glad she's here, a week home already, instead of going in tomorrow for what was scheduled to have been her birth day.

100

This is my 100th post. I knew it was coming up and I can't think of a more appropriate event to share. Our baby has arrived safely and we're all well and home!

My cousin K went into labor on Sunday, three days before her scheduled c-section. After she called me on Sunday afternoon as she waited for delivery, I packed our bags. I wanted to make sure that we had everything on the off-chance Avery decided to make an early appearance. Deran was putting the pack 'n' play together as I was on the phone and we made plans to install the car seat on Monday night after he got home from work.

Monday morning I went with my dad to visit K in the hospital and meet up with my mom and sister and have some lunch. After lunch my dad was driving me home when my water broke, on the 3rd, 11 days before my scheduled c-section on the 14th!! I may have gotten a little panicky at first, but my dad was great and kept me calm.

Avery Kate was born at 6:45 p.m. My breech baby had a very good reason for not turning around, her cord was short. I'm so glad we didn't try the external rotation. We'd made the decision the week before. After much thought and prayer, we had decided that if she was still breech at the next appointment, there must be a reason. At 6 lbs. 5 oz. and 19 inches, she is absolutely perfect.

Deran is the best daddy and I know I will be sad when he goes back to work. For now I'm enjoying our time together. I miss the pugs a lot but I know we need a couple of days at home to adjust and see how well I'm moving about before we introduce everyone. We'll all be back together within the next couple of days. I know this is kind of boring without pictures, but I'm laying in bed on the laptop and all of the pictures are on my computer in the office. I'll update with photos soon!!
